What Does the Extension Do?

The bookmarks.ie Chrome extension replaces Chrome's default new tab page with your personal bookmark dashboard. It's lightweight, privacy-focused, and requires zero configuration beyond pasting your URL.

Step 1: Install from Chrome Web Store

Step 2: Find Your Unique URL

Your Unique URL is a personal link that loads your dashboard without needing to log in. To find it:

Log in to your account
Go to Settings (gear icon in the header)
Scroll to the "Unique URL" section
Copy the URL shown

You'll need to log in first to access your Unique URL.

Step 3: Configure the Extension

Click the extension icon (puzzle piece) in Chrome's toolbar
Find "Bookmarks.ie - New Tab" and click it
Paste your Unique URL into the URL field
Toggle the redirect switch ON
Click Save

Step 4: Open a New Tab

That's it! Open a new tab (Ctrl+T / Cmd+T) and your dashboard will load automatically. No login required — the Unique URL handles authentication.

Tips for the Best Experience

Pin the extension icon — Right-click the puzzle piece in Chrome's toolbar and pin "Bookmarks.ie - New Tab" for easy access to settings
Use your Unique URL — Always paste your Unique URL (not dashboard.php) into the extension. The Unique URL allows auto-login without entering credentials
Bookmark your settings — Add your Settings page to your dashboard for quick access to extension configuration
Works across Chrome profiles — Install the extension on each Chrome profile to use it everywhere

Troubleshooting

Extension not showing in toolbar?

Click the puzzle piece icon in Chrome's toolbar, then pin "Bookmarks.ie - New Tab" to always see it.

New tab still shows default page?

Open the extension popup and make sure the toggle is turned ON and you've clicked Save. If it still doesn't work, try disabling and re-enabling the extension in chrome://extensions.

How do I temporarily disable it?

Open the extension popup and toggle the redirect OFF, then click Save. Your new tabs will go back to Chrome's default until you toggle it back on.

Which URL should I use?

Always use your Unique URL from Settings — not the dashboard.php URL. The Unique URL works without login and is designed specifically for the extension.

Extension asking for permissions?

The extension only requests the storage permission to save your URL and toggle state locally. It makes zero network requests and collects no data.
